Essential Oils

Essential Oils(EO) are complex fluids that are derived from plants and are their “life blood” which is why they are called “essential”. They are comprised of complex compounds which science cannot replicate. For example, even a simple sounding EO a Orange contains over 100 compounds. Each EO has it’s own complex composition which can be varied due to environmental factors such as water or sunlight reflective of the time of year.

Since essential oils come from living plants they “click” with our living bodies with no side effects unlike synthetic drugs. They travel fast for quick relief. For example if you put 2 drops of Peppermint EO on the bottom of your feet, you will taste it within a minute. It’s a simple test for you to try for verification of the EO’s.

As a Clinical Certified Aromatherapist (CCA) I have experienced the relief provided by EO’s and love working with clients and providing personalized blends to address individual concerns.

EO’s can be used by diffusing, applying neat on the body or ingested. Combining an EO with a carrier oil for application may be suggested as some oils can be “hot” to the skin. If at any time an EO does feel uncomfortable after applying, apply any vegetable, olive or other oil to bring relief.

Here are some recommendations for Crew Members for Essential Oils:

Stomach Problems such as nausea, IBS, or common indigestion from overeating - Peppermint. Put 1-2 drops in your water bottle and sip for relief. Pain - Muscular or headaches - Peppermint. Topically apply 2-3 drops mixed with a carrier oil such as Almond Oil or Jojoba Oil to affected areas. Do not apply neat near the eyes or wounds. Also the blend, Pan Away is also effective for muscular pain.

Insomnia - Different EO’s work for different people for sleep. Put 2-3 drops of your selected EO on the bottom of your feet or apply the EO to the areas where you wear perfume. Suggested EO’s to relax the body and mind include Sandalwood, one of the Biblical oils which is known for it’s tranquil and calming effects on emotions. Lavender is well known for calming and stabilizing the mind. Valerian is calming for the nervous system, however the aroma may not be pleasant. It can be placed it on the bottom of your feet and covered with socks as not to bother others. Spikenard, another Biblical EO is also calming to the nervous system. This one can be applied to the back of the neck on the spinal column or on the bottom of your feet.

Confidence - For those challenging days the blend Valour is perfect comprised of the combination of Spruce, Rosewood, and Frankincense in Almond Oil. Just put 2-3 drops on the bottom of your feet in the mornings.

Anti- Tumoral - Frankincense, Orange, Grapefruit. Apply topically or drop 2 drops of one of the citrus oils on your teabag for a cup of tea. Frankincense can be topically applied to your body or diffused, as with most EO’s.

Congestion - For sinus congestion use Eucalyptus globulus, with Peppermint and Lavender to clear nasal passages and relieve headaches. For colds & flu use tea tree with lemon. RC is a wonderful blend for respiratory problems too.

Calming Oils - Melissa(Lemon Balm) also known as the “Elixir of Life” is good for anxiety, depression, nervous energy and is known to strengthen your spirit. Lavender, the universal healing oil can ease the nerves, is calming and stabilizing. Bergamot, Roman Chamomile, Neroli, and Rosemary are also suggested calming EO’s. Also the blend, Peace and Calming is highly recommended.
